Thanks Marc for your insights. I don't have much time to play through some games
but it all looks very interesting! I think you may be right about Nf3 not being
very forcing or easy to play without lots of opening knowledge. I could not find
any reference material or games with this set-up at all in John Nunn's "Ultimate
Pirc" even though it does look Pircish. In that book as far as I can see only
the lines with Black playing g7-g6 on move 1, 2 or 3. In NCO under Pirc:
Miscellaneous Systems Nunn's evaluation is on p.137, note 9: 4.f4 (4.Nf3 e5 see
Philidor p..298) 4. ..e5 5.Nf3 +=. So that could use some extra material I think
as this position after 1.e4 d6 2.d4 Nf6 3.Nc3 Nbd7 seems to be played more often
nowadays.
