David Kittinger wrote the program for the Sapphire II (and several previous
Novag computers).  He wrote the WChess program for PCs.  He plays it
occaisionally on ICC as WChessX.  The engine was also mass marketed as Power
Chess (?) several years ago.

I would term its style as "active".  More enterprising than Genius (ie.
Mephisto) on the same hardware, less tactical than Fritz (ie. Kasparov line,
some Mephisto).  It definitately plays a better looking game than your
run-of-the-mill amateur engine or cheaper dedicated handheld.

I used to autoplay my Sapphire II on FICS.  I could fire it up again if you'd
like to try some games against it.
