Joe, I come across this in my own job. Folks seem to default to measuring a products quality in terms of time - when you think about this is just a primitive metric. Suppose I create a new chess program in six months that is the the best in terms of ELO. Does this mean that I am unable to charge much since it hasn't taken long to develop? Likewise, if Christophe takes two months (and he is full time on this) developing CT 15 and makes an improvement of 50 ELO, does this mean he cannot charge for the upgrade? I persoanlly don't care how long it takes him as long as the improvement is real and at least 30 ELO. I also believe, and this is not a criticism, that quite a few of the ChessBase releases are make for commercial reasons and not just because the engine has improved e.g. it's no coincidence that Fritz 7 is being released just before Christmas.
