No, not at all.

If you search N/2 nodes but do it in N+1 time then it is not as good.

My mark for deciding if a new version is better is always solution
time.

I use a set of 90 positions from different phases of the game, searched
for one minute. If the solution is not found, the time for the greatest
depth both reached is used.
