You can use the free Chess Assistant Light (http://www.chessassistant.com) to do
this also. Once installing it (a minimal installation is sufficient for what you
are asking for) follow the following steps:

Setting up a position
---------------------

1) Create a new base if you don't have one already. Base --> New will do the
trick.

2) Click on the button Add New game at the top. 3rd button on the second row.

3) If you wish to enter a game, go right ahead, but if you want to set up a
specific position, right-click on the board and select Define Position.

4) Set up the position in the dialogue (note that right-clicking on the tiny
setup board rpesents more options)

Copying the board position to Word
----------------------------------

1) The size of the board to be exported depends on what you see in front of you.
So if you want to export a very small diagram, reduce the size of the board
first by right clicking on the board and choosing Shrink board.

2) The board's appearance that you export, such as background and pieces, also
depends on what you have in front of you. You can make changes in the menu Tools
--> View options (Alt-F8) and change the background, or hit the Advanced button
to change the pieces.

3) Exporting and pasting is the easiest part: right-click on the board, select
Clipboard ---> Export to bitmap.

4) Go to Word and paste the contents.

Mind you, you can also include arrows, colored squares, and other visual hints,
and export them as well, though if you do place them you'll need to choose
Clipboard ---> Export bitmap with markers
