Subject: Beowulf v1.8 Released

Dear all,

After a considerably long time, I'm finally releasing Beowulf v1.8.

There's a very large number of changes in this version, and some parts of the
code have been comprehensively overhauled, especially the endgame code. Several
enormous bugs have also been fixed, and a few new features have been added
(including annotate mode). Passed pawn endgame analysis code is now extremely
advanced ;)

I'm pretty sure that it plays better than v1.7, but probably not by an enormous
amount. Have a look and test it yourself. I'd say it's gained about 30-40 ELO.

The list of changes is too long to write here, but it's up on my webpage.

Cheers,
Col

P.S. Usual disclaimers apply. This first version might be a little buggy (though
it's been well tested). let me know if I posted the wrong files etc...
P.P.S. There's a new large book file there too, subtly changed from the old
version.
P.P.P.S. Thomas - Beowulf works in Linux and has an analysis mode - for your
webpage. Analyze isn't supported fully, but it kind of works ;)
