It is Strange for me that the Fritz family has a reputation of being a tactical wizard while in fact my own research shows that the program is tactically inferior to many other programs .Here is 3 positions and a Comparison between Fritz6 and chessmaster 8000.The first position is from the game Beliavsky vs Smirin (1989) [D]4n1k1/1bp3b1/p1q4p/1p2n3/5N2/2P3N1/PP1r1PP1/1RQ1R1K1 b here Beliavsky played 28...Rxf2!! The game ended 29.Kxf2 Nd3+ 30.Nxd3 Qxg2+ 31.Ke3 Nd6 32.Rf1 Nc4+ 33.Kf4 Qd5 34.Kg4 Bc8+ 35.Kh4 Qd8+ 36.Kh5 Qe8+ 37.Kh4 Qe7+ 38.Kh5 Ne3 0-1 The position was tested on a 500 Mhz Computer .CM8000 finds 28...Rxf2!! in 53 seconds .While Fritz6 needs 1 Hour and 6 minutes to find 28...Rxf2!! The second position is from the game Richter vs Abramavicius (1930) [D]2rqrnk1/pp3pb1/6p1/4pbP1/3pN2R/3B1N2/PPP2P2/2K2Q1R w Here Richter played 19.Rh8+!! and won. The position was tested on a 500 Mhz Computer .CM 8000 finds 19.Rh8+!! in 3minutes and 22 seconds.Fritz 6does not find the solution here even after 24 hours. The third position is from the game Kaidonov vs Donaldson [D]rq3rk1/1b1n1ppp/ppn1p3/3pP3/5B2/2NBP2P/PP2QPP1/2RR2K1 w The position was tested on a 700 Mhz Computer.
