I just got a Micron Athlon XP 1900+, single cpu, running at 1.6ghz. I am just blown away by the whole experience. First of all, Win XP is pretty amazing. It appears to be rock solid, super-user friendly, and looks and feels great. Wonderful utilities, auto-config everything, and everything seems to work. I think this is the first OS I have used that appears to fulfill the promise of useful and easy computing for the masses. But the speed of this thing is amazing. I can have 10 progs open at once, and not even notice any performance hit. But the chess is even more amazing. I have a copy of Yace, and it gets an average of 1 million nps on this monster. I played a few games on ICC, and it's pretty damn strong. Here's an example. In a 5 5 game tonight, Yace went from a negative score to like +2 in 10-15 seconds, like right out of book vs Rebel. How long does it take your prog to go positive in this position? [D]1q2kb1r/3n1ppp/2b1p3/1Np3N1/1p1Pn3/1B6/1P2QPPP/2B2RK1 w k - 0 1 The only problem with the Micron is the excessive fan noise. Guess the Athlon really generates heat. Anyone know of a way to reduce it, like a substitute fan? Will
