Subject: Anyone have a $10,000 chess computer?

It wasn't that many years ago that you could pay over $10,000 for a
top-of-the-line Mephisto chess computer.  (Or so I was told; I've never actually
seen a five-figure chess machine.)

Those bad boys were reputed to play about as well as an IM, I think.

I wonder how much one of those puppies would sell for today -- a used one, that
is.  If you actually paid, say, $12,000 for a chess computer way back in the
stone age, would you be willing to part with it for a couple hundred bucks?  ;^)
