Chessmaster 5500 compares very well with other more costly programs.
The strength of its engine is very good at short and very long time
controls. The biggest problem with the program is its opening book. You
will come out of many lines in a losing position. The program also has
some minor bugs in it. If you can get past that it’s a very strong
program for the price. You will also learn to make a stronger
personality then the default chessmaster. The key to most of the
stronger personality is to set selective search to 10.
I will let you figure out the rest.

I hear that Chessmaster 6000 will be out some time this fall. I also
heard that there would be a different programmer to design the new
engine for Chessmaster 6000. This may be bad news if we want a much
stronger Chessmaster 6000. We will have to wait and see.
