I agree that some work needs to be done to the player interface.  I personally
believe that designers should have a goal to make a 3D interface that is real
enouph to not make me want to pullout my board every time I want to analyze a
position.  It should not be that hard to have very realistic looking almost
picture perfect looking 3D board.  I think many people now have graphics cards
in their machine.  Why not take advantage of these cards for chess.  I
personally would get a slightly weaker engine if I knew I did not have to bring
out my real chess board to play a serious game against the computer.
