I would add also the more recent book "The Inner Game of Chess : How to
Calculate and Win" by Andrew Soltis that clarifies and improves Kotov's
suggested calculation techniques.
Soltis makes a convincing case that chess is not 99% tactics, an often used
phrase... but rather 99% calculation.
