I hadn't read your heated discussions on this topic in the CSS forum when I wrote this .. Yes, I am sure Bringer has always been weakened under ChessBase GUIs. In the past the author made several changes to lessen the weakening. So for the combination Bringer 1.8 /Fritz 5.32/6/earlier WinBoard adapters I think the weakening isn't very big. I have also tested Bringer 1.9 betas with Fritz 7 and have seen _many_ strange things. I didn't want to continue testing though and Gerrit didn't seem very eager to do any more Fritz fixes either. Recent changes made by ChessBase are not very encouraging for authors IMHO. > >Bringer 1.8, and also 1.9 again, expressly support to be used in the Fritz GUI: >Users are even supplied with an WinBoard adapter file and an init file for that >purpose. Why not? If users are interested in using their Fritz GUI with every chessprogram they will find out that Bringer works, too ( as long as we forget about things like pondering et al). For most users the strength of the engine ( or some weakening) doesn't matter very much. The weakening has been mentioned briefly in one of the docs on Gerrit's site. It should be put more clearly for Bringer 1.9 maybe. >(P.S.: I didn't make use of that though, but used it's own GUI for my tests.) I know. Btw for testpositions I think the problems are not very big anyway. Kind regards, pete
