Yesterday was sort of like a disaster movie here.
The morning began with the realization that our
entire web site (including Your Move, CCR, and CCC)
were totally down overnight.
Then when we were up and running again in the morning,
I emailed an apology to all members and posted a note in
the newsgroups that we were up and running again.
As soon as I hit the send button to the newsgroups,
the server went down again AND we realized that our
email was not working at all.
At this point, Tim suggested that we begin the move
to our new server. This process took most of the day,
and without email we could not notify anyone of the
changes.
So that we would not enjoy even a partial success for
the day, after the CCC was in place on the new server,
Tim realized that the filtering could not work
properly because every message (internally) had the
same date.
But the sun came out (figuratively) at the end of the day
when suddenly our old server began to work and our email
came alive.
Since our web site is now divided on two servers (Your Move
and CCR on the old one and CCC on the new one), you have
the temporary nuisance of either inputting your password
twice or changing your bookmarks to http://207.86.247.69/ccc/
Within the next month everything will be on the new server,
and these inconveniences should disappear. At that time we
hope to begin the process of offering both the CCC members
and our Your Move customers many new features.
So, after a full day of banging our heads against the wall
here, Tim was lucky enough to have a chess match against the
top player on Long Island last night. I will find out the
results in an hour, but he was definitely at a disadvantage.
We were all exhausted here. Hopefully, everything will go
smoothly from now on (but what are the odds of that!).
