In most cases, the strength of a strong player is not based on tactial ability.
They are all good at tactics (in human terms) with some GMs being a little
better than others. The real strength of the human GM is positional play.
Chess programs that always try to open the postion at turn chess into a war of
calcuation to not play in a human style. The most extreem example of this would
be the early Fritz programs. Conversly, programs like Hiarcs 7.32, Rebel and
Shredder 5.32/6 do play postional chess (in computer terms).

When I sit down to play a tatcically oriented program, I will lose. But the
maner in which I lose is very different than when I play a strong human.
Conversly, playing a program like Shredder (full strength) I will lose, but the
flavor of the game is more like I was playing a human than a machine and is thus
more satisfying to me personally.
