LarsenVB is a Winboard engine written in Visual Basic 6. It's an Italian engine, so I'm not sure how well commented the source code is, but you can visit and download from the webpage at http://digilander.iol.it/larsenvb/. For a general overview of what you are getting yourself into, check out the 6-part series of articles at gamedev.net. http://www.gamedev.net/reference/articles/article1014.asp http://www.gamedev.net/reference/articles/article1046.asp http://www.gamedev.net/reference/articles/article1126.asp http://www.gamedev.net/reference/articles/article1171.asp http://www.gamedev.net/reference/articles/article1197.asp http://www.gamedev.net/reference/articles/article1208.asp I had the same idea as you, but I have so many other things that I'd like to get done, that chess programming has been put on hold. I'm not a programmer at all, so I would have choosen VB as my platform also, as this seems to be the most English-like (and thus non-programmer-friendly) of the higher languages. I'm sure it is true that if your goal is to build the fastest and best program possible, then C/C++ is preferred over VB. However, for me, it would be more for the intellectual challenge of doing it. Since you are doing what I can only dream of doing right now, I'd be very interested to be kept abreast of your progress on your pet project. Best of luck. ed seid ed seid
