If you've written (or are planning to write) a chess engine that works with xboard/WinBoard, you're invited to join a new mailing list. It doesn't matter whether your engine is publicly available. I'm hoping that this can be a way for us to share information about problems, questions, or bugs that arise in the communication between the GUI and the chess engine. Lately we've been discussing revisions to engine-intf.txt (the document that describes the communication protocol) and exchanging hints on how to fix various bugs. To keep the posting volume low and the technical content high, only engine authors are invited to join. (We probably won't go so far as to boot out non-authors who wander in, though. Just remember the purpose of the list and think twice about what you post.) For instructions on joining, see the new draft of engine-intf.txt on my chess Web page. Thanks to John Perry for hosting the list! --Tim Mann http://www.research.digital.com/SRC/personal/Tim_Mann/chess.html
