>> >>If I remember correctly the incident that you are talking about was Vincent >>Diepeveen accusing the Junior team of "interfering" in their game in CCT1. > >You remember correct. > >And being a commercial you are an easy target, as proven. I can see your point. Being a commercial product in a tournament like this, and with the internet as important as it has become I can see how commercials have everything lose, and really nothing to gain from such a tournament. Someone could connect to the server stating they are using X program when really they are using Y. Online tournaments are fun, but you are correct in stating that cheating is much more of a possibility due to the "rules". They are not properly setup to discourage such actions. >>Apparently Vincent though Junior played a "human" move. It was rediculous then, >>and it is still rediculous now. >> >>I was observing the event using a free week account on ICC, and I remember the >>conversation in the channel there. Almost everyone thought Vincent was just >>bitter over losing. >> >>Please do not let that _one_ incident from not allowing Rebel from joining. I >>certainly can understand that you have other duties to attend to. You are the >>owner of a chess product company that has many stables to run. > >The rules provoke incidents like this. > >I have no single doubt about Amir's integrity in the case but you never know for >sure how such gossip will develop and how stubborn its life will be. Best >example: Kasparov - Deep Blue, 1997 and Kasparov's accusation of cheating. > >Ed Neither do I. I believe that Amir Ban has the integrity not to cheat. I was observing the game at the time as Junior is also one of my favorite programs to watch, and I could not see anything to conclude that Junior was actually being moved by a Grandmaster as Vincent suggested. The incident cast a very bad shadow on the event I think. CCT2 though re-instated the belief that events such as these can go off without a hitch, same with CCT3. >>I enjoyed watching Rebel and Chess Tiger battle it out for #1 at the Dutch Open >>this year, and I would love to see them battle it out with the other 44 >>participants at the CCT4. >> >>I do not see your reasons for not entering as excuses. I simply see them as >>someone who can not due to prior obligations. >> >>Happy New Year to you Ed. I hope all goes well for you, and your program in >>2002. Rebel has been and always will be my favorite program. It is the main >>reason I did not upgrade to Windows XP. I play Rebel daily, and I believe it has >>improved my chess skill level more than any program out there due to it's style >>of play. > >Thank you Kevin for your kind words, happy New Year too. > >Ed I only give praise where praise is due. Certainly in your case it is deserved. Kevin
