After reading some of the messages posted here about "HIARCS 8 Beta", I did some checking, as Mr. Uniacke and I talk weekly. This supposed "HIARCS 8 Beta" has been seen playing on the ChessBase server as well as some games posted here by Sergei Smith... I forwarded all of this information to Mark Uniacke, and we both looked at some of the games and other information about the engine. Here is Mark's response: ---START--- From : "Mark Uniacke" <address removed for privacy reasons...> To : enrico@bytes.net Subject : RE: HIARCS 8 Beta floating around... Date : Wed, 2 Jan 2002 12:09:09 -0000 Hi, Happy new year to you and your family! Are your exams completely over now? This rogue engine is certainly not a true H8 beta. Sounds like someone has messed around with the labels on the style options as I have never produced such a version. Looks like they have changed Solid/Defensive and Aggressive to these anti-GM/Comp settings. My guess is that this is identical to H7.32 or perhaps a X001 version which seemed to escape about 14 months ago. Anyhow this version is pretty old. ---END--- Judging from how this "rogue engine" was playing on the ChessBase server and in the PGN postings by Sergei, it seems HIARCS 7.32 still has a sharp bite.. :) Those of you that are interested in seeing the *REAL* HIARCS 8 Alpha play, it can been seen on ICC as Hiarcs8x. It will also be competing in the CCT4. -elc.
