Who makes the book? Is it automatically generated from a crop of games (PGN or
other), or is it a specially made book that happens to have been developed using
a Chessbase GUI? If it's the first, then there are other utilities that could be
used to generate the book. If it's the latter, then you'll really need some kind
of hack to properly access the .ctg file or convert it to another tree format.
The only real problem with the .ctg format is in how space consuming it is. I
remember seeing the original size of a Fritz book at some 140+ Mbs.
