I had a 486/33, which I upgraded to a 486/DX2-66. MChess & Genius were tops in strength. Both ran in DOS, but MChess had (and IMHO still has) a horrible user interface for mouse users, whereas Genius 2's was quite nice. (As I recall, I owned Genius 1, KnightStalker [i.e., Fritz] 1, Fritz 2, and many versions of MChess and MChess Pro -- I kept upgrading every program until I stopped the whole computer chess thing around 1994 -- and resumed a year ago.) My current PC, 3 machines later, is an Athlon 1.2, and I have purchased the Genius Gold Collection, which includes Genius 5. I do not have Genius 6.5, which I guess is only a bit stronger but which has a bunch of features Genius 5 lacks (although I don't remember just what those are). Is there any way to put any Genius engine into any Fritz/ChessBase GUI?
