Just so I'm not too misunderstood, I agree that in tournaments and matches a
level playing field (similar hardware) would be ideal from a spectators point of
view.

The fact that some software is designed for specific types of hardware make the
level playing field unlikely.

Also interesting is the extent to which the unlevel playing field advantages a
program.
