I'm experiencing a new problem that's got me kind of stumped. I noticed yesterday that my engine was suddenly losing all of its games on time. This was rather surprising since I hadn't made any changes to the code... I always duplicate the directory and work from there. My setup is a little different. The engine isn't running on the same machine as the interface (winboard) - it's on another machine running Red Hat Linux 7.0. Winboard starts the engine via remote shell. Anyway, if I telnet into the linux box, which is running the engine, and tail -f logfile, I notice that the engine outputs the move _several_ seconds before Winboard "makes" the move. The engine sends output to the logfile and stdout in the same function, and the output is unbuffered. Even more confusing is the fact that I can do something like an "ls" from a telnet window, and the machine seems sluggish. From the terminal, however, it's as fast as blazes. I have rebooted the machine, and it doesn't help any. The load average is almost nothing. So I'm a bit stumped, and could use some suggestions. :) My engine is pretty much offline until I can get this fixed. -- James
