Ideally we would want to extend only the moves that are very good. Of course extending when there is one move clearly better than the others is the singular extension. So the recapture extension make sense in those positions where the recapture is the only sane move, and analyzing the rest of the moves costs little. On the other hand, we don't want to extend a recapture just because it's a recapture. That particular recapture might not be the only good move. If there's only one recapture, it seems a lot more likely that it is a good move. A good idea. /David
