The following text is going to be put up on the Chessmaster website some time soon. But, I figured you guys might want to see it also: --------------- For users of Windows XP/ME/2000/NT Currently, there is no version of Chessmaster that officially supports Windows XP/ME/2000/NT. If you are running: Windows XP -- Chessmaster 8000, by almost all user accounts, runs without any significant problems on XP. There have been only a very few major bug reports regarding Chessmaster 8000 by XP users, and it is not yet known if these bugs can be directly linked to XP. Microsoft states on their XP compatibility webpage that both Chessmaster 8000 and Chessmaster 7000 are "compatible with XP". However, neither product has been fully tested on Windows XP by Ubi Soft's Quality Assurance Department. Windows ME -- Chessmaster 8000 should work fine on Windows ME. It is also believed, although not fully tested, that Chessmaster 7000 will also work well on ME. No other version of Chessmaster is believed to work properly on Windows ME. Windows 2000/NT -- No version of Chessmaster is likely to work properly on Windows 2000 or Windows NT. A small percentage of users have reported that Chessmaster 8000 works without any significant problems on these versions of Windows, but most users have reported major problems. It is Ubi Soft's general policy that none of their games are likely to support Windows 2000/NT, as these are "business" platforms rather than "gaming" platforms. At this time, there are no plans to make any currently available version of Chessmaster (8000 or previous) officially support any of the above versions of Windows. The next version of Chessmaster (due to be released around June of 2002) will support Windows XP/ME/98/95. There are no plans to make the next version of Chessmaster support Windows 2000/NT. We apologize to any of our users who have recently upgraded their version of Windows and find that their Chessmaster software no longer works properly. --------------- jm
