as far as ics is concerned you have to use winboard engines to connect to these
servers or you could use a chesspartner (commercial) software to do that.
You could also use chessbase engines to run on ics but that a complicated
process, and I dont know much about it, not that I ever wanted to. And no, you
dont have to use any dos commands, unless you wanna do something fancy.
