My experience with Novag, certainly in more recent years is that their published
"box" ratings seem to be up to 200 - 400 USCF ELO points inflated, depending
upon speed of play. You only have to compare Novag's published estimates with
ratings contained in respected rating lists such as SSDF or Selective Search. I
have no doubt the Star Sapphire will be somewhere in the mid to high USCF 2400's
at speed chess, but most likely only the 2200's at 40 in 2. I have no doubt
whatsoever that SSDF will rate the machine, so it will be interesting to get a
rating at classical time controls. My guess as to it's SSDF (Swedish ELO) rating
at 40 in 2 would be somewhere around 2190, once enough (several hundred) games
have been played.
