I'm not sure that Chessbase are jealous of the Winboard community. After all, they have the majority of commercial engines in their stable. Not to mention the fact that they rob the users blind. Here I'm thinking of the fact that a user might want five engines and one GUI. But he gets, and pays for, five engines and five GUIs. Amazing IMHO. However, I'm also quite certain that Chessbase initially wanted to exploit the Winboard community with as little effort as possible. But better awareness has made this approach a hot potato.
