Hello Brian,
I cannot explain but I can tell you what I have found.  I used to run Fritz with
only 16 Meg hash at blitz.  With Fritz 7 I did some experimenting and found that
running Fritz 7 with 256 Meg of hash (G/5min) made no appreciable difference in
it's performance.  I am running Fritz on an Athlon 1400 Mhz with 512M/760M ram.
