16-BIT color means 65,000+ colors, 256-color means 8-bits. Chessmaster 8000
requires that your display is set for 16-bit color (Windows also calls this
"High Color"). So, when Chessmaster 8000 asks you if you want to change your
display properties, say "Yes" and then change to either 16-bit ("High Color") or
32-bit ("True Color") mode. This may also require that you restart your
computer.
After that, Chessmaster should work fine.
