The simple lesson I will take to heart from peoples comments in this thread is that the "best" idea and probably the simplest to explain to a chess program, is that f6 is the right move here. So I will make the engine understand that the h8 bishop needs more scope, and that capturing on e5 with the pawn, followed by a recapture of either the d- or the f-pawn will weaken one of white's f-pawns. /David
