Is there any aftermarket repair place for these units? Michael, I feel for your predicament. Trying to keep these wonderful and nostalgic machines going is getting more and more difficult. Only last year I finished restoring a 20 year old Scisys Mark V, but I was lucky that all the parts could be bought from either an electronics or hardware store. I really can't give you a firm answer, but I do have some suggestions. How practical they are would depend on how much effort you are prepared to put into the search. 1. Have you tried a large electronics component supplier such as Tandy (Radio Shack)? Here in Australia, we have a large retail chain of component suppliers called Dick Smith. I'm sure where ever you are, there might be some sort of equivalent. You might find a 6502 straight off the shelf, but whether it would be stable at 5Mhz I'm not sure. Unfortunately I think the Z80 series are a little easier to come by than the 6502 or 8088 series. Unfortunately I'm not aware of any current electronic devices that use 6502 processors anymore. 2. I'm not aware of any official repairers anymore. Have you tried Excalibur Electronics in Florida??? 3. There is a chess computer dealer in Sydney, Australia called Chess Discount Sales. He used to trade in old machines over the years and consequently amassed a collection of used computers that no one seems to want. When I last went there, he had (at least) the following used 6502 machines: Mephisto Mondial II (4 Mhz) - a couple of those Mephisto MMIV Modular (5 Mhz) - one of those Fidelity Designer Display 2000 (3 Mhz) - one of those Fidelity Excel Display (3 Mhz???) - a couple of those Novag Super Constellation (4Mhz or 5Mhz - I'm not sure) - one working He might have some more 6502 machines, but I'm not sure which ones have the CPU socketed and which ones are soldered onto the mainboard. I get this horrible feeling that a lot of those machines had the CPU soldered onto the mainboard. But it can't hurt to at least email him. His website is http://members.ozemail.com.au/~pparr/ If you do go this route, make sure you get a good deal because the machines have been sitting there unwanted for (in a lot of cases) years. 4. Other than that, keep an eye out on eBay. There is a fair bit of fidelity stuff that goes through eBay.
