I posted this to the rec.games.chess.computer where you and I saw the message...

"Looks like a hoax.

Firstly, the sender at the link you give is 'jmerlin' - the nice guy at
ChessMaster is J Merlino.

Secondly, why link to some other site when, if it was legit, there is
ChessMaster's own site!

My guess it was a virus

Finally, version 3.12c is redundant anyway, because you can download the
latest and legit v3.12d at the ChessMaster site, which doesn't have the bugs
which version c does!"
