Subject: Fritz 7 on Pent II 350 MHz 256 vs Crafty 18.13 on Pent III 1.0 gig dual

Author: Brian Katz

This is a must see game!! ICC 5/12 Fritz 7 was set at 5/10

Crafty 18.13 as White (Abraxas 2976)Pentium III 1.0 gig dual processors

Fritz 7 as Black (Deep-Katzparov 2888)Pentium II 350 MHz single processor
                                           256 MB Hash Tables
AGAIN ANOTHER WIN FOR FRITZ 7 WITH HASH TABLES SET HIGH!!!

After a wonderful game by Fritz 7, the endgame that arose was
Fritz 7 with a King and 2 pawns vs Crafty 18.13 with a King and Knight. Fritz 7
brought it's h pawn to h2 to promote. It even announced mate in 18. Then it got
down to mate in 12 then 10 and back up to 12, and back and forth.
I have the 4 disc Nalimov turbo endgame set, and I also have some downloaded
tablebases. It appears that some of the tablebases for this endgame are missing
from my tablebase folder, and need to be downloaded. Such as KqpKn,KqqKn,KrrKn.
Since it could not see the forced mate if the pawn promoted, it held off on
promoting the pawn. When it promoted, it only did so after I chose to force it
to promote. Once I forced the promotion, it no longer showed a forced mate,
since it did not have that particular endgame at that point.I found that some
other simalar endgame tablebases were missing, such as with the losing side
having a Bishop or Rook instead of a Knight.
KqpKr, KqqKr, KqpKb, KqqKb. After I download the missing Tablebases this
endgame should then be played perfectly.

Here is the game for your enjoyment. It was a fascingating game until the
endgame foul up.
At this point it would not promote the pawn and kept moving the King around
while still announcing a forced mate, but never trying to execute it until I
forced Fritz 7 to promote.
