Hi,

UCI is a new (a little bit older then 1 1/2 years) engine concept by Stefan
Meyer Kahlen and Rudolf Huber.

Now we have:

- WB engine protocol, free
- UCI engine protocol, free
- Chess Partner engine protocol, I believe not free
- Chess-Base engine protocol, not free
- MCS engine protocol, not free

UCI is free and more and more engines are compatible to UCI.
Futhermore, Shredder 5/6 Chess-Assistant 6.1, Arena and after a few days Fritz
is compatible to UCI. In the future also Chess-Academy 7.

In the next few time (end of January) started an official beta test from Arena
(UCI / WB compatible GUI by Martin Blume). If you have interest you can also
testing Arena.

Best
Frank
