I can't imagine it has to do with the BIOS setup. The BIOS would only be able to affect external memory speed and possibly disable the on-chip caches. I doubt that any changes to external memory settings would have a major effect on chess programs and if any of the on-chip caches were disabled, performance would be closer to 386 speeds than underclocked Athlon speeds. The two reasons I can imagine for the Athlon not performing as well as it should are 1) accidental underclocking and 2) accidentally running something else in the background. -Tom
