See http://www.computerchess.com/download_e.html for the patch that fixed this for me. I forget whether I had to de-install Shredder5 and start over, or just apply the patch, and I have some vague recollection about maybe installing the patch twice before it quit on asking for the CD, so don't give up before trying a few variations...
