Maybe it is a trial balloon also. They float out the idea anonymously, see how many people scream and how loud they scream, and then use that as input to decide whether or not to go ahead. Despite the fact that ChessBase is clearly the evil empire, seething in a sea of toxic, vile venom -- I will be just like the next addict in line if they should add the features I want like EPD analysis (BOTH directions in and out), reliable Winboard support, online playing at as many servers as possible, etc. ChessBase has a strange record of not listening to end users. All the other chess companies seem to be far less inertial to changes.
