The first move searches a little more, but the rest of the moves gain from better bounds (?) and less false fail highs. There is one thing I don't like. Suppose you're pondering on a move that will fail low. You research and get the exact score. This takes about the same number of nodes as a direct search with -infinity. There is one big difference though. The windowsearch will tell me quite fast I will get a fail low. Now suppose my opponent moves befor I research. Because of the faillow I will not respond immediately. If I had been searching without window I would not know I was going to faillow and find no reason for not moving immediately. Tony
