Chess is a long art and life is perhaps too short for it. I can promote some hundreds of blitz games running overnite on my home computer. But I cannot promote long games in a number which could be enough to produce inference. Short is life for that. For this reason for some time I even believed that top-engines comparations would be deemed to remain largely inconclusive and the results, uncertain. Yet blitz results are not absolute results; they are only comparative. It is expected that a fine tactical program might reveal its excellence under other time control settings as well. Thence the relevance of such a lenghty testing even under limited time control range. However you got me about something; I never had the idea of promoting a single long game between, say Shredder 6 (which I used to favor with a very positive expectative before its releasing) and Fritz 7, or Tiger 14.0 and Fritz 7. And after reading your message this idea imposed itself to me as interesting next step. I will start a 5 hours conventional game this dawn when I go to sleep and report its result to this forum tomorrow. Thank you for your opinion. Karen
