A window will pop up; see the date of your version in the upper bar. 11/nov/2001 should be the original version freshly installed from the distributed CD. Go to your ./engines directory (generally /program files/chessbase/engines, locate the file fritz 7.eng; right click it, click in properties and in version. If your version is 11/nov/2001 you sould read the engine version 7.0.0.1 If the above info is what you read, you need an update. Open your Fritz 7 program, click on playchess (not on play fritz) and connect as guest. Probably Fritz servers will warn you a new version to your software is availabe. If it does not happens, click the help menu, and chose the option QUERY UPGRADE. Both ways will open a dialog box, click yes to download the file GUI7.iup. Once the download is over, a dialog asking "upgrade now?" will pop up; click yes. After receiving the OK dialog box (...upgrade ok), close the connection and click in Play Fritz. Check again the version date; if the upgrade is well done, you will read "22 jan 2002"; check again the engine version; if ok, it will read "7.0.0.6". If anything different than that happens, go to your fritz 7 directory, check if the file GUI7.iup is there, and run the file iupdate.exe to make the upgrade manually. Check the program/engine versions again to confirm it is done. Karen
