For anyone who has had, or still has a problem with the new Fritz 7 upgrade:
Try downloading the Upgrade again. Then try to install it once again.
The first time I went thru it, it did not take.
The New Fritz 7 7,0,0,6 engine went to the Fritz 7 folder and stayed there. I
tried to manually install it with no change.
I then copied that engine into my engine folder and it replaced the 7,0,0,2
engine. I made sure I still had ANOTHER COPY OF THE 7,0,0,2 ENGINE put aside
into a different folder so I would always have it.
However, everytime I logged into the Playchess.com option, it kept prompting me
for the upgrade. When I checked the HELP>ABOUT FRITZ 7, it still read November
22, 2001.
So after reading some of the advice from this WONDERFUL SITE FROM SOME VERY
HELPFUL PEOPLE, I tried to download the upgrade again, and reinstall it. It went
thru just fine without a hitch. I did follow some instructions though.
1. I thru no advice from anyone, put back a copy of the 7,0,0,2 engine into
the engine folder. I wanted to see if the upgrade would make the change to
7,0,0,6 on it's own, without me having to copy the new engine from Fritz 7
as mentioned earlier.
2. I downloaded it again
3. I CLOSED the Fritz 7 program and any other programs applications running.
I wouldn't go so far as to shut down programs running in the background,
I even closed AOL after the download was complete.
(I even closed the BLUE Play Fritz Playchess.com window)
4. I then clicked onto UPGRADE NOW and everything went thru without a hitch.
After it was thru, it said it was a successful upgrade.
5. I opened up the Fritz 7 Blue Screen, clicked onto Playchess.com and it no
longer prompted me for the upgrade.
6. I clicked onto Help>ABOUT FRITZ 7 and it read January 22, 2002 like it was
supposed to.
7. I went into the engine folder and right clicked onto the Fritz 7 engine,
clicked onto properties, selected the version tab, to see if the change
was made from 7,0,0,2 to 7,0,0,6. BEHOLD the change had been made!!!!!
If anyone had or has a problem with the upgrade Try downloading it again
and go thru the process once again.
IT MAY JUST WORK !!!!
Thanks again to everyone who had some helpful info to contribute.
Much appreciated!!!
Brian
