The name is obviously the tricky bit, but I'm sure that a few marketing people
could sort that out (probably the same people that undoubtedly would find the
name "UBI chess" attractive).

The main idea was to keep the chessgame basically unaltered except that the
tribes can be used as animated piece sets. Somewhat similar to Battle Chess. I
think that some might find the opportunity to watch the critters get slaughtered
on the chessboard appealing. The other alteration would be to allow WinBoard
engines to control the other side during the normal Settlers game, eg. "post"
would mean build and "nopost" tear down. Different buildings would be associated
with pieces, eg. a black bishop would be a blacksmith and a white bishop a
bakery. This idea obviously needs a bit of refinement to work coherently. We
might need a new protocol. Maybe the UBI (Universal Board Interface) protocol
would be a proper name.

That's a very roughly sketched idea. But remember, it's free!

Mogens
