I would recommend reading the 17 page paper: 'Computational capacity of the universe' by Seth Lloyd. He reckons the universe has performed 10^120 operation on 10^90 bits. And his paper: 'Ultimate physical limits to computation' where he reckons the limit of computational power of a one kilogram computer confined in one liter of volume.
