You can always remove your Fritz 7 engine, or just move it elsewhere for
safekeeping. Or just rename your Engines folder to aEgines or bEngines or
cEngines or anything you like. I use the simple Add a letter method. It is
easier to rename it back to Engines later on when you wish, but any renaming is
fine.
Fritz just won't find the engines in the folder, which is what you want.
Thatby the way is one of the best way to save engines from various programs,
when you want to uninstall an interface. I know in the past, Fritz or Junior 6
would take it's engines with it when uninstalling.
If you rename the Engines folder, it wont be able to find the engines and it
can't remove it from your folder.
If you reinstall the Fritz 7 program it will probably just overwrite the
interface and in this case give you another Engines folder with the 7,0,0,2
engine, which is the version which comes with the English Version CD.
If you are afraid to overwrite your present interface for fear of losing some
Fritz weights, you can always load Fritz 7 onto another computer, copy the
Engines folder to a Floppy Disk, or a CD and then copy that folder into your
present, (I am assuming) Program Files\Chessbase folder. Again I remind you to
rename your present Engines folder.
There are probably other options as well.
I hope that this will help you get the Fritz 7 7,0,0,2 version back.
My program seems to be playing stronger with the 7,0,0,6 version, based on some
games yesterday on the ICC chess site. The name I am using on that site under my
computer account is: Deep-Katzparov. Most of the games I have it play there are
5/12 against Humans. It has been beating GM's and IM's there quite often. It has
over 300 wins and only 19 losses wiht 20 some odd draws in there. Some of the
games there are against other Programs as well. That is where I noticed an
improved performance yesterday. 198 -9 with some draws, was the record from
Deep Fritz before I let Fritz 7 take over.Fritz 7 7,0,0,2 was doing fine
against Humans, but I just wasn't satisfied with the games vs other programs,
even though the results turned out fine. NewHal9000 kicked the butt of Fritz 7
7,0,0,2 a number of times.
Please forgive my rambling on and on.
