Subject: And what is futility prunning?

I just wanted to know what kind of prunning this is futility prunning is!
Looking up fulility/futile in my dictonary it says it meens: "Producing no good
results" :-) I guess the meaning must be to prune the futile, iow no good lines.
But how do the program know that?
