Subject: the Van Wely mate in 6 blunder----comments

Author: K. Burcham

i tried to understand the van Wely blunder a little better. i looked for
some kind of explanation that would make his blunder seem
more justified. i felt sorry for van Wely. Does anyone know if van Wely
is having health problems? i could not find anything that would
make me feel better about this blunder.
this was a mate in 4 blunder, on long time control with a 2697 Grandmaster.
I do not understand these blunders. i have been told over and over that
the GM has a sense about the board position like no other human has.
it is difficult to comprehend this blunder, when other GM's are playing
and winning blindfolded.

at this site Loek Van Wely is ranked 16 in the world.
http://www.fide.com/cgi-bin/base.cgi?search_name=&search_country=-1&search_sex=-1&search_rating_min=&search_rating_max=

these GM blunders are hard for me to understand, especially this one.
i thought Van Wely was hoping Morozevich would take the queen after
Qc5. but this also would not help the position.
i do not understand why van Wely did not just resign, instead of this
blunder.
some here have already told me that GM are allowed to blunder.
i do not expect a perfect GM game from e4. but i do not except a blunder
from a high raking GM in a standard game.

instead of blunder, programs plays 18...Nf6 with this line.
and leads to the position below with eval at depth 20 for both programs.
maybe on a good day, van Wely could have played for a draw?
