Hiarcs ran at a 1.78Ghz Athlon XP at the cct4, how is
a 933Mhz G4 *ever* going to get close to that?

More likely the Athlon XP and the G4 are 1 to 1 when talking about Mhz.
An XP is over 20% faster than a P3 for me at the same Mhz. The huge
branch misprediction penalty which the G4 might have (they didn't
want to give me info on how much penalty it gets) is going to be P4
a look like and removes all the fun for chessprograms.

Photoshop and such rendering programs can make use of the velocity
engine in the G4, which is of no use for computerchess, but a gift
from heaven for graphical calculations and even more for PR department.
