I believe all programs play BOTH positionally AND tactically. Rather two slices of the same pie, don't you think? If the program can find a winning tactic it surely must take it, regardless of any positional theory, and the reverse is just as true. Seeing no winning tactic of any kind, still a move must be played, and what would guide the program to choose a good one if not positional factors? Dave
