I have just read the UCI standard again. I did not realize in the past that it does not include a way to tell to the gui that an engine is askin a draw or offering it to the other engine. I know that many engines don't consider draw offers, but how about an engine asking for the application of a rule: such as 3-fold repetion of the position f 50 moves rule? This seems to be left to the GUI, which in general is not supposed to take decisions for the engines (unless the clearly state they cnnot handle draw commands). Why was decided so? I'm I missing something? Isn't it just a violation of FIDE chess rules? FIDE laws clearly state: E.III. Regulations for Play with Computers [...] "3.3 Only if the computer itself so instructs him may the operator offer a draw, or claim a draw by repetition." so why computer programmers still neglect so often the need of a correct handling of draw offering/accepting in compuer chess? regards Franz regards Franz
